I hope you’re well and feeling positive about 2021…
Today I’m reminded of the importance of keeping our own world wide open… regardless of the external forces around us.
The pandemic has locked many people down into a limited, smothering state that’s actually largely an illusion.
We need to be open to positive people, ideas, and places that may be trying to catch our attention, even though we are not physically outside of our homes, like we were pre-pandemic.
This can be hard, for sure, but here are some ways to take action that will promote openness in this “shelter in place” world:
- Research, read, and watch the things that inspire you and interest you on Youtube, blogs written by influencers, etc.
- Connect with others. Call, Facetime, and Zoom with those who are positive and support you…
- Go for walks in nature. God and the universe can soothe you to keep your mind relaxed so that you can receive good messages that are trying to reach you… (the sound of water trickling; or a crackling fire pit; or bird watching makes me feel so good)…
- Write about your gratitude and dreams (vision for the future)… hand write daily to keep the positive thoughts you have in the forefront of your mind… this is like a daily mental vitamin to thwart inconsiderate people and negative news being hurled at us on a regular basis…
I’ll leave you with this profound quote that I’ve always loved from Richard Lovelace – 17th Century Poet in his To Althea From Prison:
“Stone walls do not a prison make nor iron bars a cage…”
Regardless of what he meant by it (and there’s a ton you can Google to find that), I’ve always felt it means that so much of what imprisons us is in our heads—we mostly invent our own prisons in our minds… releasing those bonds that box us in, small people who drag us down, and negative thoughts can make the world a huge platform for your next act!
